On Saturday, 5 October 2019, Table Bay Mall once again will be joining forces with Rise Against Hunger Africa, in a bid to pack 50 000 meal packs for hungry South Africans – and they’re inviting you to join them from 9am to make a difference ahead of World Hunger Day on 16 October 2019.

Rise Against Hunger, formerly Stop Hunger Now, is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable.
With the goal of eradicating world hunger by 2030, Rise Against Hunger relies on the generosity of corporates for meal sponsorships and the generosity of the public for meal packing, asking for an hour of your time to join a fun assembly line, packing food for those in need.

Table Bay Mall will be the venue a special edition of Rise Against Hunger’s meal packathons, as it becomes one of a few shopping centres across the Cape to be a part of the One Million Plus One campaign – spearheaded by Expresso TV presenter, Graeme Richards in partnership with boutique marketing agency, The Blue Room.
Richards has been involved with Rise Against Hunger for a number of years now and is passionate about ending world hunger by 2030. Talking about his involvement in the campaign, Richards said, “Ten to twenty children die due to starvation every day in South Africa. How can it be that in 2019 we have so many children dying daily on our doorstep, because their parents and caregivers can’t afford to feed them? We have to come together, as a nation, to bring an end to these deaths – and through Rise Against Hunger, we’re making progress.”

He went on to say: “Last year, through our Meals for Mandela campaign, we managed to pack 100 000 meals. This year, I wanted to up the ante to a million and one, hence the name One Million Plus One. The Plus One is to signify the next child we are looking to feed, until we have fed every child.”

The morning show TV personality will serve as MC for the packathon at Table Bay Mall, as well as provide additional entertainment for meal-packers through some of his partnerships with some of Cape Town’s most talented musicians and entertainers.
Marketing Manager for Table Bay Mall, Karla Linder, has said that for the shopping centre, it goes beyond just an event.

“Thanks to our upcoming packathon, 300 children will not go hungry over the next year. It’s a small way in which our mall can make a difference and help Rise Against Hunger get even closer to their goal of ending world hunger by 2030.”

This is the second time that Table Bay Mall will be working with Rise Against Hunger and Graeme Richards. Last year, the mall joined forces with the organization and morning show presenter as part of Richards’ Meals for Mandela campaign, where Richards put out a call to local shopping centres on Mandela Day 2018 to make a difference and get involved. Table Bay Mall took up the call and the event was a major success, thanks to the love and generosity of Table Bay Mall’s shoppers and the local community around the mall.

Meals for the upcoming One Million Plus One packathon at Table Bay Mall have been sponsored by Oceana.

Join in the packing action and donate your time for great cause. For just an hour of your time, in a fun and entertaining environment, you could help feed one of three hundred starving South African children.
